Sankey Chart

The Sankey Chart extension provides an intuitive way to visualize data flow between categories or stages. It helps users analyze relationships, proportions, and movements within complex datasets using connected nodes and links.

This guide will help you get started with the Sankey Chart extension, explaining its features, properties, and customization options.

Accessing Sankey Chart

Step 1. Open Qlik Sense Application: Open your Qlik Sense Hub and select the application where you want to add the Sankey Chart.

Step 2. Enter Edit Mode: Navigate to the sheet (or create a new one) where the Sankey Chart will be placed. Enter Edit Mode to modify the sheet.

Step 3. Access Custom Objects: In the left panel, click on “Custom Objects” to open the menu.

Step 4. Select SenseOps Extension: Locate and select “SenseOps” from the custom objects list.

Step 5. Add SenseOps Sankey Chart: Find the “Sankey Chart” under the SenseOps category. Drag and drop it onto your sheet canvas.

Features

  • Visualize the flow of data between multiple dimensions and measures.
  • Customize nodes, links, colors, labels, and titles.
  • Control data handling for optimized performance with large datasets.
  • Adjust font styles, background colors, and text positioning.
  • Enable interactive features like tooltips, selections, and multiselect.
  • Choose from multiple color schemes and opacity settings for better readability.

Customization Options

Data Handling

  • Flow Chart Nodes Limit: Enable or disable node limit control. You can define the maximum number of nodes per dimension that can be rendered.

Note

Increasing this value for large datasets may affect browser performance.

  • Data Downloading: Users can choose from the following predefined options to control how much data is loaded

    • Initial Loading (5000)
    • Define Max Records Manually
    • All Data
  • Suppress Zero Values: Helps keep your visualization clean by hiding data points with zero values.

  • Calculation Condition: Allows users to set an expression-based condition that determines when the chart should be calculated and displayed.

Appearance

  • Color Mode: User can choose to either blend link colors with their connected nodes for smooth transitions or apply a solid color for uniform link appearance.
  • Links Opacity: User can adjust link transparency (e.g., 40%) to control flow visibility.
  • Links Value Labels: Provides the option to show or hide value labels, depending on how much detail you want in your view.

2. Nodes Styling

  • Nodes Width: Adjusts the thickness of nodes (e.g., 25px) for better visual balance.
  • Distance Between Nodes: Controls the spacing between nodes (e.g., 10px) to fine-tune layout clarity
  • Border Color & Width: Lets you customize border appearance to make nodes more distinct.
  • Label Orientation: Choose how labels are aligned—either horizontally or vertically.
  • Label Font Customization:
    • Font Color
    • Font Size
    • Font Style (Bold / Italic / Underline)
    • Option to place labels inside nodes
  • Value Font Customization:
    • Value Font Color & Size
    • Font Style (Bold / Italic / Underline)
    • Option to display values inside nodes

3. Colors

  • Color By: Choose whether colors are based on Dimension or Node.
  • Color Type: Select between Classes or other supported color types.
  • Color Schemes:Pick from custom colors or predefined palettes to match your design style.
  • Reverse Colors: Use this toggle to invert the color sequence if needed.

4. Dimension & Measure Titles

  • Show/Hide Titles: Lets you display or hide titles as needed
  • Position: Choose where titles appear either at the top or bottom of the chart.
  • Font Customization:
    • Font Color
    • Font Size
    • Font Style (Bold / Italic / Underline)
    • Background Color and Opacity
